Xiaoqiu Lin

 

Lin Xiaoqiu is a top erhu performer, who started learning music under the nurture and influence of her family at the age of 5.  She has studied under many famous Chinese Erhu performers, including the famous erhu master, Min Huifen, at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music.  She was an undergrad, majoring in Erhu in the Department of National Music. In 1986 she joined the Shanghai National Orcshestra, one of the larger Chinese national music group, and served as one of their leading erhu performer.

During her 20-year tenure, she participated many times at large-scale cultural and artistic activities such as art festivals, shows, film festivals, etc., in Shanghai, as well as other Chinese cities. She also participated in music recordings for movies.

She had toured and performed internationally in countries and cities such as Austria, Germany, France, Belgium, Singapore, Taiwan, Macau, Hong Kong and various other places. She was with the Shanghai National Orcshestra when former Chinese President Jiang Zemin visited the United States of America.

In 2002, by special invitation from the Shanghai Radio Station, she recorded and published an erhu solo album. Shanghai People’s Radio has interviewed and introduced her as an erhu soloist many times.

After relocating to Canada in 2005, she was invited as a special guest to perform in many local music concerts as an erhu soloist.

In 2008 and 2010, she gave solo performances several times at concerts with Grammy Award winner and internationally acclaimed Canadian, Ron Korb, and his Dragon Flute Orcshestra.

In 2015, she participated in the recording of Ron Korb’s Asia Beauty album, which won the Grammy Nomination Award in the United States.

In 2018, she was invited by the Toronto Symphony Orcshestra to perform as the erhu soloist for the Orcshestra’s grand New Year concert.
